Membership Convenant

The Sunny Brae Church Membership Covenant

1. I will Protect the Unity of the Church

By acting in love toward other members….

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another…” John 13:34-35

“Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus…”  Rom 15:5

“Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart…” 1 Peter 1:22

By refusing to gossip…

“Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear…” Eph 4:29

By following the leaders….

“Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you….” Heb 13:17

2. I will Share the Responsibility of my Church

By praying for its growth…

“We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers…” 1 Thess.  1:2

“We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater…” 2 Thess. 1:3

By inviting the unchurched to attend…

“And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled….”Luke 14:23

“Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.  Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person….” Col 4:5-6

By warmly welcoming those who visit…

“Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves…” Rom 15:7

“Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions….” Rom 14:1

3. I Will Serve the Ministry of my Church

By discovering my gifts and talents…

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God….” 1 Peter 4:10

“For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly…” Rom 12:4-6a

By being equipped to serve by my pastors…

“And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the [a]saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;…” Eph 4:11-12

By developing a servant’s heart…

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men….” Phil 2:3-5,7

4. I will Support the Testimony of my Church

By attending faithfully…

“not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near…” Heb 10:25

By living a godly life…

“Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ…” Phil 1:27

“Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more. For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification…” 1 Thess 4:1,3,7

By giving regularly…

“On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come…” 1 Cor 16:2

“Thus all the tithe of the land, of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord’s; it is holy to the Lord…” Lev 27:30
